Time to Pay up for your OBSC 2010 Membership FEES
|
As well, we again wish to remind all members that the 2010 membership fees are now due. If you haven't already done so, please complete the membership form and send it in along with your fee to our postal address available on-line. Better yet, why not bring it to the meeting this Monday and take a look at the gear available for sale. All members who have completed their renewal by Monday night's meeting will have their name entered into a draw for a free charter dive this summer.
Those members who have not renewed their membership by June 1st, will have the website access suspended until the form and payment has been received. Since the registering or dives for this year is only available on-line, it will be necessary to have this access to select your dives as well as to participate in the regular club activities. Remember that the fees collected go directly towards our insurance and dive costs, so please try to get this done as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about the membership renewal, please contact Amanda at membership@obsc.ca

Looking for Commitments for Rescue Courses
|
At the executive meeting last night, there was a commitment to hold the rescue diver course in time for the 2010 season. If order to determine the cost of this course and the logistics, it is necessary for Daniel to know how many members are truly committed to taking the course. Members should know ahead of time that it is not an easy course to complete, but if you have good swimming skills and competency in diving, you should be able to successfully obtain your rescue diver certification.
In order to finalize the plans for this initiative, all members who wish to take the course are asked to email Daniel at training@obsc.ca to get your name on the list. At that time, you will be provided with more details on the syllabus of the course and what will be expected of you. So, if you are considering taking this course, please get in touch with our training manager to reserve your spot.
In addition to the rescue diver course, the club also wishes to hold a self-rescue course. This is not to be confused with the rescue diver course as self-rescue is tailored towards those divers who wish to gain more confidence in their diving skills, or to get back those skills if you haven't been diving for a few years. In order to determine if there are enough members who are interested in the self-rescue course, we are asking you to contact Ron and he will in turn provide you with more details including a tentative time frame to complete. You may contact Ron at vicepresident@obsc.ca

Dive Equipment Rental Information
|
At this time, we still have at least 13 sets of equipment available for rent for the 2010 season. Remember that a tank, regulator set and BC is available for $200 plus the $100 deposit and is yours to use for the season. If you check around town, you will find that a weekend rental of the same equipment ranges from $65 to $115 for only two days. All tanks and regulators have been serviced for this season and all BC's have been inspected and ready to go. If you wish to rent from the club, please don't wait and contact equipment@obsc.ca to reserve and obtain your equipment.

FYI from Divers Alert Network (DAN)
|
The Ottawa Beavers Scuba Club, to help to ensure that all divers remain current in lifesaving protocols suggest that divers should follow this link concerning hands only Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). This information is provided due to recent changes to the recommended protocol from the American Heart Association concerning the elimination of rescue breathing when administering CPR.
